Portable toilets
Porta potty rental in Indianapolis
A portable toilet keeps guests out of the house during a graduation party or a wedding in the yard, and keeps a household going when the only bathroom is gutted. Call and talk with an independent local company that rents them.

When households rent one
Family events
Graduation open houses, reunions and birthday cookouts where guests would otherwise line up at the hall bathroom.
Weddings and parties at home
Long evenings in the yard, when a septic system or old plumbing shouldn't take the load.
Bathroom out of service
A remodel in a one-bathroom house, or a plumbing repair that runs longer than planned.
How many and which kind
The company works out the count from your guest list and how long the event runs, and whether food and drinks are served. Tell them both numbers rather than guessing a unit count yourself.
Standard units are a single stall with a urinal and a hand sanitizer dispenser. Ask what else they stock: units with a small hand-wash sink, flushing units that feel closer to a real bathroom, and wheelchair-accessible units with a wide door and room to turn. If any guest uses a wheelchair or walker, ask for an accessible unit by name.
Where it goes
Pick level, firm ground. A unit on a slope rocks, and soft lawn after rain can let it tip. The service truck has to reach it to pump it out and pick it up, so keep it within reach of the driveway or an alley gate.
Set it downwind of where people eat, close enough that nobody walks across a dark yard to find it. A path light or a string of lights nearby helps after sunset. On a windy site, ask whether the unit can be staked down.

During a remodel
For a bathroom renovation that runs several weeks, ask about weekly servicing: the company pumps the tank, restocks paper and cleans the unit on a set day. Agree on that day before delivery so the truck can get in.
In winter, ask how they handle freezing weather. If your project also needs a container for the torn-out tile and vanity, see remodel dumpsters.
Porta potty questions
How far ahead should I call?
For a date in graduation or wedding season, call as early as you can. Ask about availability when you call.
Do I need a permit for one in my own yard?
Not usually on private property. If it would sit on a street or sidewalk, treat it like a container and read the permit guide.
Ask about a portable toilet
Tell the company the date, the number of guests and how many hours, or how long the bathroom will be out.
