Renting a dumpster in Greenwood

Greenwood's heavy trash pickup turns away exactly the debris home projects make: dirt, concrete, tree limbs and construction material. That's where a container comes in.

Small roll-off holding broken concrete and brick next to a removed patio

Greenwood heavy trash, in brief

From the city's waste disposal guidelines:

When

Once a month, in the last full week, on your regular trash day.

Accepted

Furniture, non-Freon appliances, mattresses wrapped in plastic, and carpet scraps bundled in four-foot pieces.

Refused

Dirt, sod, rocks, pavers, concrete, block, tree limbs, tires, electronics, chemicals and construction or demolition debris.

A permit for the street

Greenwood's city code makes it unlawful to place equipment or leave debris on a street, alley, sidewalk or right-of-way without a written permit, applied for through the Engineering Division of Community Development Services (Sec. 7-45). A roll-off at the curb falls under that, so keep it on the driveway where you can, and ask the engineering office first where you can't.

Freon appliances and chemicals

Refrigerators, freezers and air conditioners need a Freon sticker bought from Greenwood Sanitation before the city's hauler will take them; call the hauler at 317-484-3365 to arrange pickup. That's usually simpler than finding a dumpster company that accepts them.

Indianapolis ToxDrop is only open to Marion County households, so it isn't an option from a Greenwood address. Ask Greenwood Sanitation where paint and chemicals should go.

Talk to a local dumpster company

Have your address, the project and a rough start date handy. The company will suggest a size and tell you the price, the weight allowance and when it can bring the container.
